SUGGESTED TANK HEATING CABLE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE.

NEVER HEAT OR STORE PROPANE TANKS INDOORS, OR IN ANY ENCLOSED SPACE!

1. Create a "strain relief" by attaching 2 to 4 layers of duct tape to the heat cable, near the fused plug assembly (molded orange plastic case with indicator light).

2. Attach duct tape "strain relief" to the tank body.  Locate the fused plug assembly where it will be conveniently accessible to your electrical connection.  Position the fused plug assembly so the indicator light is visible.

3. Attach the heat cable to the tank using a few small pieces of duct tape to hold it in the desired position.

4. Spiral the heat cable around the tank body.  Position most of the heat cable in the lower 2/3rds of the tank body, where the liquid propane level is concentrated.  DO NOT ATTACH ANY CABLE UNDERNEATH THE TANK BODY WHERE IT WILL BE CRUSHED BY THE TANK WEIGHT!

5.  Complete the attachment of the heat cable by wrapping the tank body with clear plastic stretch wrap. Use 2 to 4 layers ofstretch wrap and pull it as tightly as possible while wrapping. Plastic stretch wrap is used for packaging and shipping and is available at most hardware/home supplies centers.

6.  On horizontal tanks it is necessary to stretch wrap in both the vertical and horizontal directions.

7.  Finished wrapping should be tight enough to keep the heat cable from shifting or slipping.  Once stretch wrapping is complete, install a protective  padded tank cover.  Do not use the heating cable unless a protective tank cover is in place!

NEVER HEAT OR STORE PROPANE TANKS INDOORS, OR IN ANY ENCLOSED SPACE!

TANK HEATING CABLE

HC_overview.JPG (100615 bytes)OUR HEAT CABLES ARE THE SAFEST AVAILABLE.

These self-regulating cables are a one-size-fits-all product.  They are NOT "heat tapes", and do not contain a thermostat. Instead, output is regulated by electrical resistance within the cable itself.  This eliminates the potential hazard of the "hot spots" that occurred when old style heat tapes came in contact or close proximity. Our cables come equipped with a replaceable fused plug for additional safety.  Handy indicator light on the plug shows when the cable is active.

The tank propane pressure attainable is in the 120 to 180 psi range, depending on several variables. Properly grounded electrical supply outlet must be used.  Full instructions are included.
